The name of the farm Welgelegen translated from Dutch means "Best Positioned" and that truly explains why the farm produces the best cherries in South Africa and why the farm is regarded as one of the most beautiful farms in the Eastern Free State with its scenic hiking trails and its old sandstone farm house, built in 1921, which will be renovated as a guest house.
